Keith’s teaching philosophy is rooted in building a solid foundation around fundamentals and enthusiasm. He has been teaching for almost 20 years and has amassed a huge body of knowledge which he willingly passes along to his students. His students regularly win awards, auditions and scholarships. Some of his students have gone on to successful college careers and some have gone on to enjoy professional careers of their own. Most recently one of his students has gone on to Berklee College of Music in Boston, after winning many scholarships, and one has gone on to USC to play music. One student has become the first female freshman in over 20 years to play in the snare line at Millikan High School in Long Beach. Some of Keith’s students have won auditions for All Southern California Jazz Band and All District Band in Long Beach Unified School District while others have recently won spots in Praise/Worship bands. His roster of students range in age from 8-65. Regardless of age, Keith helps students from all abilities transition to the next level all the while having fun.
Here are some quotes from students and parents about their time spent with Keith:
“He has expertise in many different styles of music, and can teach you exactly what you want to learn. But most importantly, Keith has a great attitude. He is patient, easy-going, and always encouraging. I highly recommend him to music students of all levels.” – Marriane Mantz, mother of student Robert Mantz
“With the guidance and support of Keith Larsen, I have become far more knowledgeable of my instrument and have found comfort in the once intimidating concept of being a drummer. Not only does Keith keep lessons entertaining with his optimism and humor, but he also provides essential information and tips in a simple and easy to understand way. Thanks to Keith, I can now brag about making All District Honor Band two years in a row and breaking the trend of an exclusively male drum line at my school by being the first female in years to claim a spot on the band’s snare line starting my freshman year. If I could give advice to anyone looking into becoming a percussionist, take the first step by making Keith your tutor.” – Alyssa Romero, current student
“A good teacher not only teaches and drills the student but inspire and motivate them to the best of their potential. And that’s what Keith does.” – Johnny Siyluy, parent of student Dwight Siyluy
